Tiffany Foster (CAN) Wins the Scotiabank Cup (1.50m)

July 7, 2023 (Spruce Meadows) - The Scotiabank Cup (1.50m) was the final competition to wrap up Friday of the Spruce Meadows ‘North American’, CSI5*/2*, presented by Rolex. Over 40 horse/rider combinations stepped through the clock tower to challenge the track designed by FEI Course Designer Santiago Varela (ESP).

Despite a little bit of rain, nine of the competitors jumped clear in the first round and advanced to the jump off. The jump off track consisted of 7 obstacles (8 jumping efforts) over 310m that the riders had to complete in a time of 47 seconds or less.

The depth of Tiffany Foster’s (CAN) current roster is something all riders covet. Today she brought the 9 year-old mare Electrique through the Clock Tower and she performed like an old pro. After passing all the first round tests, Foster stuck to her plan and used the mare’s big step and careful nature to best the rest of the competitors. The pair galloped through the finish line in a time of 39.15s to secure their second International Ring win in a row.

“I think especially here (Spruce Meadows), you hear the cheer when you go in (to the ring) in front of the home crowd - I always try my best to make them proud. I love jumping here, I love jumping in front of the Canadian fans and hopefully we can carry on tomorrow.” - Tiffany Foster (CAN) on second International Ring win of the week.

Another win for Conor Swail (IRL) in the ATCO Cup (1.45m)

The ATCO Cup (1.45m) was the final qualifying competition for Sunday’s Lafarge CSI2* Grand Prix. Forty-eight entries challenge FEI Course Designer Santiago Varela’s 550m track that featured 13 obstacles (16 jumping efforts). A time allowed of 83 seconds would only be met if horses and riders traveled at 400m per minute.

Ten of horses were piloted successfully in round one and passed all the tests qualifying for the jump off. Conor Swail (IRL) has been on a roll this summer, and aboard his 12 year-old gelding, Gamble, he galloped through the finish line clear, in a time of 37.27s for the win.

This is Swail and Gamble’s ninth top 3 finish of the 2023 Spruce Meadows summer tournament season. The pair have a great set of stats* at the 1.45m level with a 44% clear round rate and are in the top 10 45% of the time (over 62 competitions).

Matthew Sampson (GBR) wins The McNerney Cup (1.40m)

The McNerney Cup (1.40m) was first up on the International Ring to kick off Friday of the Spruce Meadows ‘North American’, presented by Rolex. This competition was the final qualifier for Saturday’s AVIVA Ovation Winning Round. Forty-three horse/rider combinations started the competition and 13 of the combinations jumped clear rounds and advanced to the jump off.

Today the flag of Great Britain was hoisted to the top of the nations flag pole on the International Ring. Matthew Sampson (GBR) riding MGH Candy Girl were the fastest of the clears in the jump off posting a time 40.84s.

The pair have an astounding set of stats* at the 1.40m level with a 100% clear round rate and are in the top 10 71% of the time (over 6 competitions).
