Germany’s Richard Vogel Wins the CANA Cup (1.55m)
September 7, 2023 (Spruce Meadows) - The CANA Cup (1.55m) capped off competitions for Thursday of the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’. Over 40 athletes stepped through the Clock Tower in hopes on adding their name to the historic CANA trophy - a piece of the Spruce Meadows Trophy Collection that has names dating back to 1977.
FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) built today’s track to be completed in a time of 72 seconds or less. The course utilized a few of the permanent obstacles on course including the open water and dry ditch.
Some of the best in the world are competing this week, and the results backed that up with fifteen jumping clear and advancing to the jump off

Three of the fifteen qualified for the jump off elected to save their horses for another day. Today’s winner would still have to be clear and quick in order to make it to the winner’s circle.
The jump off clear rounds kept getting faster, but it was Richard Vogel (GER) aboard United Touch S who posted the fastest clear round in a time of 43.07s. Natalie Dean (USA) and Hans-Dieter Dreher (GER) rounded out the top three.

World #5 Ranked Rider Martin Fuchs (SUI) wins the ATCO Cup
Over 40 competitors stepped onto the International Ring this morning to get the show jumping action started for Thursday of the Spruce Meadows ‘Masters’ CSIO5*. Riders had to cover the ground at a speed of 400m/min and clear 12 obstacles (15 jumping efforts) in under a time of 65 seconds in order to advance to the jump off.
Eleven of athletes representing nine nations all passed FEI Course Designer Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) first round test and advanced to the jump off. Fresh off the European Championships, Martin Fuchs (SUI) was looking for his first Spruce Meadows win of the season. Aboard Bastille, the pair were the quickest through the finish line, clear, in a time of 39.65s.

Santiago Lambre (BRA) wins the PwC Cup
The PwC Cup (1.40m) was the final competition from which competitors could qualify for tomorrow’s Paramount Resources CSI2* Grand Prix on the International Ring. Over 25 competitors stepped into the All Canada Ring to take on the track designed by FEI Course Designer Peter Grant (CAN).
Four competitors passed all the first round tests of Grant’s course and advanced to the jump off of the PwC Cup. The final victory of the day on the All Canada Ring belonged to Santiago Lambre (BRA) riding J'Adore Van Het Klinkhof. The pair jump a clear jump off round in a time of 43.60s and were welcomed to the winner’s circle by Courtney Kolla, Partner, PwC.

James Chawke (IRL) wins the Oxford Properties Cup
It was a beautiful afternoon at Spruce Meadows for the Oxford Properties Cup (1.30m). Twenty riders started the competition looking to add their name to the Spruce Meadows history books. Ten horse/rider combinations passed all the first round tests of the jump off competition and advanced to the jump off.
Ireland’s James Chawke riding Nacara van Berkenbroeck Z posted the fastest clear round in the jump off with a time of 42.10s to take the win.

Hannah Gould (CAN) wins the NOV Tuboscope (1.20m)
Today’s NOV Tuboscope (1.20m) started competitions on the All Canada Ring. The jump off competition was fierce but today the victory belonged to Canada. Hannah Gould (CAN) riding Carousel's J'Adore took the victory posting a clear jump off round in a time of 44.65s.
